4. Product approval and publication
- Owner
- You (solo operation)
- Trigger
- A gemstone has completed intake (Procedure 1) and has a recorded landed cost (Procedure 3); or a ring setting product is ready to publish.
- Approval
- You are the sole approver before anything goes live.
Current state — Shopify is on standby: complete every check below and keep the product accurate, but leave it draft/unpublished in Shopify until the storefront actually launches (see the launch checklist). Grist is the source of truth for a stone's status in the meantime — a stone can be fully approved here and still show as Grist
Stones.Status = In stock, not "purchasable," until launch.Procedure
- Check data completeness: SKU, price, tracked inventory of 1, all required structured attributes, images, and — if certified — certificate details are all present. Anything unknown is marked "unknown," never left blank.
- Set and approve the retail price. Confirm it reflects a deliberate margin over landed cost, not a placeholder number.
- Review every product claim — gem type, treatment, origin, certification — against the supplier documentation and certificate on file. Never state a claim that isn't backed by evidence you actually hold.
- Verify images: in focus, an accurate representation of color, and — if certified — the certificate image or reference attached or linked.
- For a ring setting product (used by Make Your Ring), additionally confirm its structured compatibility data — shape, dimension ranges, carat range, gem type, construction — is complete and correct, and that it has at least one available metal and ring-size variant, before publishing. Make Your Ring provides no per-order manual fit review, so a compatibility data error is the only place a bad fit gets caught.
- Only after the relevant checks above pass, change the product from draft/unpublished to active/published in Shopify.
Rule
- Unapproved content, pricing, or claims must never be published — including anything that only exists as a working draft.
- A ring setting's compatibility data is a factual claim, not a one-time judgment call — an error in it is treated with the same seriousness as an error in a gemstone's origin or treatment claim.
Required evidence
None new — this step verifies that evidence already gathered in Procedures 1 and 3 is actually complete before publishing.
